‘The Problem With Giraffes’ by Danni Gowdy

Earlier this month, I sent my dummy books to the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy – the worlds biggest children’s book fair and the meeting place for all professionals involved with creating and publishing children’s books. Bologna also happens to contain ALL of the worlds best ice cream, pasta, pizza and prosecco… and after eating my entire weight in said foods last year, it was probably a good thing I didn’t go along myself this year. The MA course I recently graduated from have their very own stand at the fair, and I was lucky enough to secure a place on it again this year, where my work would be exhibited and shown to publishers during meetings with my tutors. Last year I took my book ‘Theo’s Things’ and ‘The Lion & The Dance Hall’, along with my portfolio and promo materials.

This year I had a brand new book to add to my collection – my most recently completed picture book titled ‘The Problem With Giraffes’. This picture book is aimed at 3 – 6 year olds, highlighting some of the hilarious problems that giraffes face in everyday life, from struggling to get washed in the morning to always standing out in a crowd.

Following the book fair, I usually spend a few weeks talking back and forth with publishers/agents who are interested in my work or a particular book. I still haven’t managed to get my books published yet but I am hoping to someday soon!
